Natural Relief For Your Pet – Pets and CBD

Natural Relief For Your Pet – Pets and CBD

Have you heard of the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) before? The ECS is a complex regulatory system that creates and maintains our body’s internal stability (homeostasis). It does so by adjusting the flow of neurotransmitters and regulating bodily functions including appetite, sleep, emotion and movement (just to name a few). And did you know that this impressive system is also found in our pets!

Cannabinoids found in cannabis interact with the ECS and will either up-regulate or down-regulate a variety of physiological and cognitive processes. Cannabinoids (such as THC and CBD) bind to these receptors. And since animals like your cats and dogs also have an endocannabinoid system, cannabinoids from the cannabis plant can help regulate their system too!

Is CBD safe for cats & dogs?

CBD is generally well tolerated by pets with virtually no side effects. It is non-psychoactive so you don’t have to worry about your pet getting “high”. CBD can be a great natural alternative for animals who struggle with a variety of ailments like the ones listed below. It can also be a great daily addition to the care plan of older pets.

Some potential benefits of CBD may include:

  • Arthritis relief
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Anxiety relief
  • Skin Irritations
  • Digestive upset relief
  • Seizures and epilepsy
  • Can help fight cancer
  • Reduce chronic Inflammation
  • Provide neurodegenerative disease protection
  • Promotes cardiovascular health

CBD Delivery Methods:

There are a variety of different delivery methods available that provide their own unique benefits. They include the following:

Topicals  Lotions, sprays and balms makes it easy to provide the properties of CBD directly to problem areas to help your pet live a happier life. These are best for localized pain and are relatively easy to apply. Topicals are great options for skin irritations, joint and muscle relief and relief from arthritis.

Treats  CBD infused pet treats are easy to dose and administer. Ingesting CBD typically provides longer-lasting relief so your pet will reap the benefits of CBD for a longer duration of time. Some CBD treats also contain other healing ingredients that can provide additional benefits.

Tinctures – These provide accurate dosing and can be added into your pets food, water or directly into their mouth.  Tinctures also tend to provide longerlasting relief.
